Why do our cats need surveillance screening?

First, our beloved pets can't speak, so they have a hard time telling us if they feel sick or have any other indicators of internal illness. We need to examine them every SIX MONTHS as well as run some routine screening tests to detect underlying disease BEFORE it is clinically apparent.

In addition to screening test, every cat should, early in life,  be tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline Aids to establish their status. Also, any new cat coming into a household, any sick cat or any cat that may have been exposed the viral disease from a cat fight should be tested.  It is a simple in hospital test and takes about 10 minutes.

Second, cats are really good at hiding their illnesses. They can mask signs of illness until late in the course of disease. This stems from survival instincts in a colony situation. Therefore baseline bloodwork is essential to track the health of every cat.

Use the age chart below to find your cats' age in "people" years and the screening testing recommended for each stage of his or her life.

We believe the following tests give us the best chance of helping your pets live longer, healthier lives.

These are approximations and may vary by gender, species and breed.
